Best Things To Do in Leadville, CO with Kids - Summer Edition!

We fell in love with Leadville a couple summers ago. We took the kids every weekend to our favorite little mountain town, Leadville, which left all of us begging for more. (Hence, why we opened Elevation Goods in this incredible place!) Below are some of our favorite summer activities for family fun:

1. Take a family-friendly hike

I can personally guarantee that just because this hike is good for little legs, the views DO NOT disappoint! One of our favorite hikes and picnic spots is right off of Fremont Pass called Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir. The hike loops around a scenic lake and a popular fishing hole. It's just 2.4 miles with minimal elevation gain. Here's a link to the trailhead: Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir

2. Take a Train Ride

Leadville Mountain Train Ride
This scenic trip is great for kids and adults alike. The journey is full of breath-taking panoramas across the Arkansas River Valley as well as mining history. The trip is about 2.5 hours long but our kids enjoyed it the whole time. Make sure to bring your jackets as this is a high-alpine adventure! Book your tickets here: Leadville Train

3. Paddle Board Twin Lakes

Paddle boarding on Twin Lakes is so fun for the whole family, and possibly the most beautiful location for water sports. Our kids love being on the lake. Everything from the actual boarding, to skipping rocks and exploring over a picnic. Keep in mind it's cold- come prepared! You can rent your paddle boards (and life jackets) right by the lake here: https://www.supandcycle.com/

4. Bike the Mineral Belt Trail

Bike the mineral belt trail in Leadville Colorado

The mineral belt trail is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. You can see the mountain tops of the Sawatch mountains and remnants of 1880s silver mines, all on a paved, 11.6 mile loop around town. Of course, you can just catch part of the trail if you prefer and then head into town for a late lunch.

5. Visit the Fish Hatchery

Observe and feed the trout while learning about conservation efforts. There are short trails to stocked ponds where you can see the trout in their natural habitat.

Lastly, come visit us here at Elevation Goods!

Harrison Ave. in Leadville is full of fun restaurants, bars and shops. We are located right across from the Silver Dollar Saloon!
